The Datalux Tracer features an Intel Pentium M mobile processor and a 12.1 inch, high resolution Touch Screen viewable in bright sunlight and dimmable for night-time use. Because the Tracer was designed for public safety, complete mounting solutions are available for all makes and models of police, fire and EMS vehicles.

The Tracer supports all wireless connectivity options and can also be equipped with built-in 802.11b/g wireless communications. A PCMCIA/CardBus slot is conveniently located on the top of the Tracer for cellular wireless cards, providing easy installation and positioning the internal antenna near the windshield and above the dashboard.
The Tracer mounts feature a backlit 82-key keyboard with a unique custom mounting system. The keyboard can be removed and mounted in the steering wheel so that the user can avoid twisting and turning to reach the keyboard when typing reports. The Tracer can be easily moved out of the way in order to allow access to dash controls.

The Tracer can be mounted in most vehicles easily and without alterations to the dash or displacing other equipment, including the AM/FM radio. No extensive cabling to trunk mounted equipment is needed because the computer and display are integrated into one compact unit – and all mounted inside the vehicle. To ensure durability, the computer has been tested to MIL-STD-810F.

PlateScan works by capturing digital license plate images as they pass a camera, whether mobile or fixed.Vehicle matches are reported instantly, allowing the officer to take appropriate action.

When used in police vehicles, PlateScan’s proprietary software is scalable depending on available budgets. PlateScan’s proprietary software is supplied installed on the PlateScan trunk mounted computer, which, in turn, is connected to several vehicle mounted cameras optimized for license plate recognition. It can also be provided as a software solution installed on an existing in car Laptop and can often operate with an existing DVR camera.

Every license plate is compared to a list of “vehicles of interest” associated with auto theft, felony warrants, BOLOs, parking violations, or any other license plate-oriented databases, such as Amber Alerts, NCIC downloads, etc., the police agency wishes to use.

PlateScan software uses an intelligent Neural Network recognition engine, providing a distinct advantage over base-level solutions, such as OCR, as it significantly enhances the accuracy rate. In addition, PlateScan’s Neural Network features distributed parallel processing. This means that it is capable of accurate high speed plate recognition across multiple lanes of high density traffic moving at speeds of over 110 MPH. The system is currently capable of processing 4 vehicles per second.

When a positive match is received, officers are alerted by an audio and/or visual alarm. They, then, respond to the “hit” in the appropriate manner for that agency. Until an alert occurs, the PlateScan system operates in the background, allowing them to perform their regular police activities.
